How do I interact with Google AdSense support?

Receiving an email from the Google AdSense support team is rarely cause for joy, but neither is it the end of the world. If you’re a publisher in good standing and there’s some kind of problem with one of your pages or sites, Google will usually contact you before taking drastic action and give you the opportunity to correct the problem before taking further steps. Only if they see egregious violations of the AdSense program policies — especially if it involves large numbers of invalid clicks — will they suspend or terminate an account without notice.

Here are the steps to take in response to an email from Google AdSense support:

  1. Monitor your contact address. Be sure that you’re monitoring the email address that you’ve registered with Google so you can respond to any questions or notices they may send you.
  2. Respond promptly to all inquiries. Respond as quickly as you can, it’s important to show that you care about your account.
  3. Ask for clarification. Sometimes the emails are fairly vague, stating that you have a page or site that’s in violation of an AdSense program policy, but not actually giving you details about the violation. Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification if you’re unsure of what the problem is. You’ll get a more detailed reply from someone on the support team with specific examples of what’s wrong and likely a pointer or two to the applicable sections of the AdSense program policies.
  4. Be polite and contrite. Don’t threaten Google or anyone on the AdSense team, don’t be sarcastic, don’t do anything to annoy the people on the other end of the email. This is your business that’s in jeopardy, after all. If you behave like an idiot and they terminate your account as a result, you’re the one that’s going to lose out, not Google.
  5. Read the AdSense program policies and terms and conditions. It’s a good idea to refresh your understanding of the program policies and the terms and conditions. There are links to both of these in your AdSense management console, so there’s no excuse. Policies do change from time to time, so it could be that you missed a change and as a consequence your page/site is now in violation.
  6. Make requested changes as quickly as possible. Again, you want to show your willingness to co-operate. Make changes the requested changes, even if you think they’re wrong, and then have a (polite!) discussion with the AdSense team about what you were doing and why you think it was right. The people at Google aren’t unreasonable, but you have to make a case.

As you can see, there’s no need to fret when Google mails you. Being prompt and courteous in your interactions will take you a long way. As it will with anything!
